Fenerbahce v Liverpool![]()
Our Liverpool player ratings from the 3-2 defeat at Fenerbahce reward Trey Nyoni and Alexander Isak for their goals, while Jérémy Jacquet receives the lowest mark after a difficult night in defence.
Liverpool led twice in Istanbul but conceded to Archie Brown and Vedat Muriqi in the closing stages to lose their perfect Champions League record. Iraola’s attacking substitutions worked; his side’s defending then let the points slip.
These are dave.sport’s editorial ratings out of 10, based on the reported match events and performances. They are not statistical or aggregated scores.
Liverpool player ratings: goalkeeper and defenders
Alisson — 5/10
Made an important first-half save from Greenwood and was wrong-footed by the deflected equaliser. The confusion with Gakpo for Brown’s goal and failure to command the area for the winner undermined that work.
Joe Gomez — 6/10
Started at right-back and left with the score still 1-1 as Iraola changed the attack. A functional contribution, and he was off the pitch before Liverpool’s decisive defensive collapse.
Jérémy Jacquet — 4/10
Unfortunate when Greenwood’s free-kick deflected off him, but the winning goal was more concerning. Could not prevent Muriqi winning the header in a position Liverpool had to defend better.
Virgil van Dijk — 5/10
His presence in the opposition box helped create pressure before Nyoni’s opener. At the other end, the captain could not organise a defence that conceded twice late on.
Kostas Tsimikas — 5/10
Lost possession under pressure from Lukaku in a dangerous first-half incident, with Alisson saving from Kanté. Replaced by Milos Kerkez with the game level at 2-2.
Liverpool player ratings: midfielders
Trey Nyoni — 7/10
Reacted decisively to the loose ball for his first Liverpool goal. The deflection helped, but his willingness to strike first time deserved credit. A significant personal milestone on a disappointing team night.
Alexis Mac Allister — 5/10
Liverpool needed greater control after regaining the lead. As a senior midfielder, he could not provide enough of it as the game swung away, and picked up a late booking.
Dominik Szoboszlai — 6/10
His delivery helped create the opening goal. Switched to right-back after the triple substitution, taking on a different job as Iraola loaded the side with attacking options.
Liverpool player ratings: forwards
Víctor Muñoz — 6/10
Tested Ederson and contributed to Liverpool’s early attacking pressure. Did not turn that involvement into a decisive contribution and was withdrawn in the triple change.
Rio Ngumoha — 6/10
Offered an outlet with his running and was prominent during Liverpool’s brighter opening spell. Encouraging involvement, although it did not produce a goal or assist before his withdrawal.
Bradley Barcola — 5/10
The central role did not bring enough penalty-area threat. Moved wide after the substitutions, while Isak’s immediate goal highlighted the value of having a specialist striker attacking Gakpo’s cross.
Liverpool substitute ratings: Isak makes immediate impact
Alexander Isak — 7/10
Introduced in the 66th minute and scored three minutes later. Attacked Gakpo’s cross from close range to give Liverpool a second lead. Delivered the intervention his manager needed.
Cody Gakpo — 6/10
Excellent delivery for Isak’s header, followed by a costly defensive touch that diverted the ball away from Alisson before Brown equalised. A contribution with clear positives and negatives.
Florian Wirtz — 5/10
Introduced alongside Isak and Gakpo but did not supply a comparable decisive moment. Liverpool needed another opening after falling behind, and his arrival did not produce a rescue.
Milos Kerkez — 5/10
Replaced Tsimikas at 2-2 and was part of the defence when Muriqi scored the winner. Little time to settle, but his introduction did not help Liverpool secure the draw.
Lewis Koumas — Not rated
Replaced Nyoni in the 85th minute. Too little time to give a fair numerical rating.
dave.sport’s Liverpool player of the match: Trey Nyoni. His breakthrough goal earns the nod, with Isak also providing a clear positive from the bench.
