Ryan Gravenberch injury blow for Liverpool as midfielder ruled out of Fenerbahce trip
Ryan Gravenberch will miss Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Fenerbahce with a heel injury, with no return date confirmed.
Ryan Gravenberch will miss Liverpool’s Champions League match at Fenerbahce after a heel injury ruled him out of Wednesday’s trip to Istanbul.
The midfielder will stay at the AXA Training Centre for treatment while Andoni Iraola takes a 22-man squad to Turkey.
Liverpool confirmed his absence on Tuesday but did not give a timescale for his return.
Ryan Gravenberch injury keeps midfielder on Merseyside
In their official injury update, Liverpool said Gravenberch would remain with the club’s medical team rather than travel for the Champions League fixture.
The Dutchman was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 1–0 defeat by Arsenal. Iraola explained after that match that Gravenberch had been experiencing discomfort in his heel, and Liverpool have now decided against taking him to Istanbul.
His absence removes an option at the base of midfield as Liverpool prepare for their fourth league-phase match.
Trey Nyoni offers Liverpool a midfield option
Trey Nyoni is among the players travelling and could retain his place after making his first Premier League start against Arsenal.
The 19-year-old has featured regularly under Iraola, but Liverpool have yet to announce their team for Wednesday’s match.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are also in the travelling group, giving Iraola alternatives as he considers how to set up his midfield without Gravenberch.
Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are included in the squad, alongside young forwards Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas and Rio Ngumoha.
When will Ryan Gravenberch return?
Liverpool’s announcement rules Gravenberch out of the Fenerbahce match but does not establish how long he will be sidelined beyond that fixture.
There is no confirmed return date, with the midfielder receiving treatment on Merseyside.
