Eddie Hearn
Profile
Eddie Hearn is the chairman of Matchroom, the Brentwood-based promotional company his father Barry founded in 1982, and the promoter of Anthony Joshua's entire professional career. Born Edward John Hearn in Essex on 8 June 1979, he took over as chairman of the Matchroom Group in April 2021 when Barry Hearn moved into an advisory role as president, and he also chairs the Professional Darts Corporation.
Joshua
Hearn signed a promotional agreement with Joshua in 2013, a year after Joshua's London 2012 gold medal, and has promoted every fight since Joshua's debut. The biggest was the 2017 win over Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 at Wembley Stadium; the most contentious was the 2019 Ruiz rematch in Saudi Arabia, which drew criticism over the country's human rights record. In September 2021 the two agreed a new deal running to the end of Joshua's career.
Television deals
In May 2018 Hearn agreed a deal with the streaming service DAZN for the United States, reported at $1 billion and covering 16 US and 16 UK shows. In June 2021 a five-year DAZN deal moved Matchroom's fighters off Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, and a further five-year agreement announced in February 2026 runs to 2031.
Fury v Joshua
Matchroom is a co-promoter of Fury v Joshua at the Principality Stadium on 11 December 2026 alongside Queensberry and Sela. Hearn has said the fight contracts cap the ring walk at 2am; the promoters have asked Cardiff Council to allow a walk at around 1am to suit the Netflix audience in the United States. In 2024 his Team Matchroom lost 10-0 to Frank Warren's Team Queensberry in the 5v5 event in Riyadh.
