Ulster fought back from 21 points down to draw 26–26 with Munster after Stuart McCloskey’s late try and Jack Murphy’s conversion completed a remarkable turnaround in Belfast.
Munster led 26–5 at half-time at Affidea Stadium but failed to score after the interval. Both teams finished with four tries and three league points, as detailed in The42’s match report.
Ulster vs Munster turns after dominant first half
Alex Kendellen scored twice for Munster, with Marnus van der Merwe and Dan Kelly also crossing. JJ Hanrahan added three conversions as the visitors secured their try bonus point before the break.
Jacob Stockdale supplied Ulster’s only first-half try, leaving the hosts facing a substantial deficit.
But Stockdale crossed again after the interval before David McCann’s try brought Ulster within seven points. Murphy converted both scores.
McCloskey then delivered the crucial late try, with Murphy adding the conversion to level the match. Neither side could find a winning score.
Munster left to reflect on missed opportunity
The result was Ulster’s second successive league draw, following their 33–33 finish against Glasgow Warriors.
For Munster, a commanding position became a frustrating evening. Van der Merwe acknowledged afterwards: “We should have controlled it better,” in comments reported by The Irish Sun.
Away from the pitch, Munster have also confirmed Avan Lee’s appointment as interim chief executive, with the former Hurricanes boss due to begin later this month.
