Moyes criticises ‘very, very poor’ Everton defending after Hull draw
David Moyes criticised Everton’s defending after they surrendered a second-half lead to draw 2–2 at Hull City, despite extending their unbeaten Premier League start to six matches.
David Moyes criticised Everton’s defending after they surrendered a second-half lead to draw 2–2 at Hull City, despite extending their unbeaten Premier League start to six matches.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry overturned Joe Gelhardt’s opener, but Mohamed Belloumi equalised six minutes after Everton had gone ahead.
Moyes felt his side should have secured victory from that position and said their performance fell well short of the standards they had set.
“It looked really unlike us, the way we gave the goals away today, it was very, very poor,” he said in comments reported by the Press Association via The Irish News.
Moyes praises Dewsbury-Hall contribution
Dewsbury-Hall earned praise from his manager after scoring Everton’s equaliser and supplying the assist for Barry.
Moyes also called for greater ruthlessness in front of goal, while acknowledging that Barry had contributed a goal himself.
Dewsbury-Hall received the highest mark in our Hull–Everton player ratings, earning nine out of 10 after also making four key passes.
Everton finished with 65% possession and 15 shots to Hull’s nine, but could not prevent the hosts from recovering through two substitutes.
Elliot Stroud provided the assist for Belloumi’s 74th-minute equaliser, with both players having entered the game ten minutes earlier.
Hull response earns Jakirovic approval
Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic considered the draw a fair outcome and praised his players’ willingness to take greater risks after falling behind. He felt their response demonstrated the character of his side.
The draw at the MKM Stadium leaves Everton with two wins and four draws from six league matches. Hull have nine points, one fewer than their visitors.
