Hull vs Ipswich injury news: Nobel Mendy is back in contention for Saturday’s Premier League match, while Jack Butland has returned to group training and could also feature in Hull’s squad.

Sergej Jakirović delivered the updates at his Thursday press conference before Ipswich visit the MKM Stadium on 31 October. The goalkeeper’s involvement remains subject to a decision, with the Hull boss also reporting positive news on Oli McBurnie and Lewie Coyle.

Hull vs Ipswich injury news: Mendy back in contention

Mendy has returned to training following his groin problem and is available for consideration this weekend, according to BBC Sport’s report of Jakirović’s Thursday press conference.

The defender’s recovery gives Hull another option, although a return to contention does not guarantee a place in the starting XI.

Jakirović explained that the club have been working on Mendy’s physical conditioning, including his core and groin, and would continue to manage him carefully. His comments combined a willingness to use the defender with recognition of the work needed to support his availability.

Could Jack Butland return against Ipswich?

Butland is back training with his team-mates, but Hull had not settled on his inclusion when Jakirović spoke on Thursday.

The manager said a decision would follow on Friday, according to Fantasy Football Scout’s press-conference coverage.

That is a positive step in his recovery, without amounting to confirmation that he will start or be named among the substitutes against Ipswich.

McBurnie and Coyle expected to be available

Jakirović indicated that Oli McBurnie and Lewie Coyle are expected to be available after minor problems last weekend, according to Fantasy Football Scout’s Thursday press-conference coverage.

The report identified a rib concern for McBurnie and a hamstring issue for Coyle. Jakirović said Coyle had trained during the week and described his problem as minor.

Which Hull players remain unavailable?

Eliot Matazo, Matt Targett, Ilyas Ansah, Darko Gyabi and Charlie Hughes were listed as unavailable in Sports Mole’s Thursday preview. Lucas Gourna-Douath was also listed as a doubt.

Ipswich await clarity on Saša Lukić

Lukić’s groin injury remains a question for Ipswich before the trip to Hull.

Gary O’Neil had targeted this fixture for his return when explaining why the midfielder would miss Nottingham Forest on 23 October. Speaking the previous day, he said the club wanted to give Lukić time to rejoin group training rather than rush him into that match, TWTD reported.

That was a recovery target, rather than confirmation of availability for Hull. Sports Mole’s preview on Thursday continued to list Lukić as requiring assessment and Jack Taylor as unavailable.
