Haaland injury: Maresca on Man City’s five scares vs Ipswich

Haaland injury fears eased on Saturday night after Enzo Maresca said the striker told him he was fine, but Manchester City finished their win over Ipswich with five fitness concerns.

Maresca named Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Nico O’Reilly, with Semenyo requiring further assessment.

Haaland injury: what Maresca said

Haaland scored twice in City’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich before limping down the tunnel at full-time.

In City’s published update, Maresca said Haaland, Kovacic and Nunes had each told him they were okay. He did not provide a diagnosis for the striker or confirm his availability for Tuesday.

Semenyo is the main concern

Semenyo came on with around 15 minutes remaining and was also limping afterwards. The Standard reported an apparent knee knock, although the nature of the problem remains unconfirmed.

“The only one we need to wait on was Antoine and we will see,” Maresca said.

O’Reilly, meanwhile, is still experiencing the back problem that affected him during the warm-up against Coventry, according to the City manager.

City’s fixtures before the break

City host AEK Athens on Tuesday 20 October before visiting Aston Villa on Saturday 24 October. Two home meetings with Brighton follow: the Carabao Cup tie on 28 October and a league match three days later.

Trips to RB Leipzig and Nottingham Forest complete a run of seven games in 22 days, including Ipswich.

Maresca had already acknowledged that Haaland would need a rest, reinforcing the workload question facing City before these latest concerns.
