Declan Rice is close to agreeing a new long-term Arsenal contract, according to BBC Sport, as the Premier League champions work to secure another key figure’s future.

BBC senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel reports that negotiations with the England midfielder have reached an advanced stage.

Rice’s existing agreement runs until 2028. The reported progress follows Wednesday’s confirmation that Mikel Arteta has extended his Arsenal contract until June 2030.

Declan Rice contract talks progress

Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham for £105m in July 2023 and has become a central part of Arteta’s midfield.

BBC Sport reports that the proposed agreement would include a significant pay rise. An extension has not yet been announced by Arsenal.

Securing Rice would give the club further continuity after a season in which they won their first league title in 22 years and reached the Champions League final.

Arteta’s new agreement has settled the manager’s future. Completing Rice’s deal would secure one of the players around whom that team has been built.

Arsenal return to Premier League action at home to Leeds United on Saturday, looking to respond to their defeat at Brighton before the international break.
