At Anfield, the Federico Chiesa January exit talk is back.

Calciomercato names three Serie A clubs ready to move for Federico Chiesa once the window opens at the turn of the year.

That report stands alone for now. Liverpool have made no comment, and the forward’s own words this week tell a very different story.

“Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool,” Chiesa said, pouring cold water on any idea that he is pushing for a move.

“I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything,” he added. His focus this season seems clear enough.

That could also be interpreted from a position of protecting his contract terms on Merseyside.

Ferderico Chiesa Latest

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan, Lazio and Atalanta have all shown interest in signing Chiesa in the new year.

The outlet also claims the forward is prepared to leave Anfield once the market reopens.

Chiesa arrived at Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024, but he has had to settle for a bit part role.

The expert angle: what Chiesa’s words tell us

Chiesa’s own comments carry more weight than a transfer rumour built on a single source. “At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool,” he said.

Those remarks appear in full in our full report on Chiesa, published alongside the Calciomercato claim.

“This year, let us say it is a new chapter,” Chiesa said. “There is a new manager and I have to focus on that.” That framing matters.

A player talking about a fresh start under a new manager is not a player publicly agitating for an exit.

None of that rules out business happening in January. Clubs talk to agents regardless of what a player says in public, but the Chiesa January exit story, as things stand, rests on Italian press speculation.

What happens next

Liverpool’s wider picture gives the Chiesa talk some context. The club are unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Yet they have won just twice in the league, against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth.

That mixed record arrives at a big moment after the international break: Manchester City visit Anfield next Sunday in a fixture that will say more about Andoni Iraola’s side than any January gossip.

Alongside the senior squad, there is a youth story worth watching.

Rio Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest ever scorer, at 16 years and 361 days, with a late winner against Newcastle United in August 2025. He has made five appearances this season, with two goals and one assist in 35 senior games.

Ngumoha credits Mohamed Salah with pushing his development. He recalled the senior forward’s advice in this piece:

“Rio, you know you’re a good player but to reach the top, you have to add the goals and assists,” Salah told him.

“But then over time, I saw him as a very good team-mate and he was helping me a lot, so I can’t thank him much more,” Ngumoha said.
