Everton vs Coventry: Lampard returns as Moyes checks Branthwaite

Frank Lampard makes his first visit as an opposing manager since leaving Everton in January 2023. His Coventry side arrive after beating Sunderland 3-1, while Everton’s 1-0 victory at Newcastle lifted David Moyes’s team to seventh.

Jarrad Branthwaite came off with cramp at St James’ Park and is being assessed. Moyes confirmed Jack Grealish remains unavailable, leaving Everton to build on their Newcastle performance without him.

Leeds vs Tottenham: Spurs test Leeds’ five-game winless run

Tottenham have won three consecutive league games under Roberto De Zerbi. Leeds have gone five without a victory since beating Newcastle 4-1, scoring just twice during that run.

That makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness particularly relevant. Daniel Farke is hoping the striker can return to training after a foot problem, while Noah Okafor and Anton Stach are major doubts. Joe Rodon’s return to team training offers more encouraging news before Leeds attempt to halt Spurs’ climb.

Arsenal vs Hull: leaders have chance to go six points clear

Arsenal enter the weekend three points above Manchester City. Victory over Hull would double that advantage before City’s evening game at Nottingham Forest, adding pressure to a rival already coming off consecutive league defeats.

Viktor Gyökeres has strengthened his case for another start after a goal and an assist in Arsenal’s 2-1 Champions League win at Slavia Prague. Bukayo Saka remains out and Max Dowman is suspended. Ezri Konsa’s fitness also needs monitoring, while William Saliba returned to the midweek squad without coming on.

Hull have drawn five of their opening nine league games. Arsenal’s challenge is to turn their territorial advantage into goals without allowing the visitors to stay in contention.

Fulham vs Newcastle: Joelinton blow adds to Jaissle’s problems

Fulham have taken seven points from their past three matches and can move above Newcastle with a home win. Álvaro Arbeloa’s side drew 1-1 at Aston Villa last weekend; Newcastle lost 1-0 to Everton on Monday.

Matthias Jaissle must respond without Joelinton, who has a fresh injury, and suspended midfielder Jacob Ramsey. Newcastle are also assessing Matias Fernandez-Pardo following illness. Those absences complicate the task of stopping Fulham’s improving run at Craven Cottage.

Nottingham Forest vs Man City: visitors need a response

Defeats by Aston Villa and Brighton have cost Manchester City top spot. A third successive league loss would give Arsenal another opening. With the leaders playing earlier, City could arrive needing a win simply to keep the gap at three points.

Forest are 19th and have failed to score in their opening four home league matches. Oliver Glasner therefore needs more than a defensive holding operation: his team must find a way to threaten City while containing Erling Haaland, who has 14 goals across the Premier League and Champions League this season.

Brighton vs Brentford: Yalcouye winner sustains Brighton’s momentum

Brighton followed their victory at Manchester City with a 1-0 Conference League win at Getafe on Thursday, thanks to Malick Yalcouye’s second-half header.

Fabian Hürzeler made five changes in Spain and now has another selection decision against Brentford. The visitors beat Forest 2-0 last weekend and can call on Yehor Yarmoliuk again after suspension. With Brighton third and Brentford sixth, this is an early test between two teams challenging near the top.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Mateta ban leaves Sage a decision

Jean-Philippe Mateta begins a three-match domestic suspension after Palace’s appeal against his Tottenham red card was rejected. Eddie Nketiah is an option to lead the attack against Liverpool, with Palace needing a response to their 2-0 defeat at Spurs.

Thursday brought some relief as Daichi Kamada’s stoppage-time equaliser earned a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim. Our Crystal Palace player ratings assess that performance. Liverpool also arrive needing an improvement after defeats by Arsenal and Fenerbahce.

Ipswich vs Bournemouth: Cherries chase eight wins in a row

Bournemouth’s winning run reached seven matches with Thursday’s 3-1 comeback at Sparta Prague. Tyler Adams, Evanilson and Rayan all scored after coming off the bench.

Marco Rose changed eight players in Prague, giving him scope to restore several regular starters at Portman Road. Evanilson has six goals in his past seven appearances and presents an obvious threat to an Ipswich side coming off a 2-2 draw at Hull.

Sunderland vs Chelsea: hosts need an answer after another defeat

Sunderland remain bottom and have won only once in six matches across all competitions following Thursday’s 2-0 home defeat by Dinamo Zagreb.

Régis Le Bris made four half-time substitutions in that game, underlining the selection questions before Chelsea visit. The visitors beat Manchester United 2-0 last weekend. For Sunderland, the immediate priority is to avoid another poor start that leaves them chasing the match.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa: can Carrick turn Roma comeback into league form?

Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Roma ended nine matches without a victory, but Carrick still needs to repair their Premier League position. United begin the weekend 17th and have not won in the league since August.

Matheus Cunha’s late double rescued Tuesday’s Champions League game from 2-0 down. Repeating the recovery is one thing; avoiding another damaging first half is the more immediate task against Villa.

Lisandro Martínez is suspended, while Carlos Baleba’s hamstring injury creates another selection concern. Villa also have a suspension to cover, with Matty Cash unavailable. Unai Emery’s side are 10th and will be looking to recover from their midweek defeat by Barcelona.
