PDC European Circuit Expands with £1m European Championship in 2027
PDC European circuit 2027 expansion details released, featuring a £1m European Championship and the new £750k European Open tournament.
PDC European Expansion Confirmed for 2027
The PDC European circuit 2027 expansion is official. The Professional Darts Corporation has confirmed increased prize money and new playing opportunities across the continent, headlined by a bigger European Championship and a brand new European Open.
The European Championship grows to a 48 player field over six days with a £1 million prize fund, and the European Open launches as a new event open to every Tour Card Holder.
Official PDC Announcement and European Open Details
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter confirmed the changes in the governing body’s PDC official expansion announcement.
He said the growth of darts on the continent had driven the decision.
“The continued growth of darts across Europe has been hugely exciting to see, and these developments represent another significant step forward for the PDC circuit.”
The European Championship will expand from its current format to 48 players competing over six days, with the winner sharing in a £1 million prize fund.
Sitting alongside it is the new European Open, a fresh addition to the calendar open to all PDC Tour Card Holders, with its own dedicated prize fund.
“The introduction of the European Open, alongside an expanded European Championship and increased prize money across the European Tour, reflects the strength of the sport and our commitment to creating more opportunities for players”, said Porter.
Impact on Tour Card Holders and Pathway Tournaments
The changes extend well beyond the top of the sport.
From 2027, the Challenge Tour and Development Tour will each run across six three-day weekends, with one tournament staged on every day of those weekends.
That gives players on the development pathway far more regular competitive action than the current schedule allows.
Prize money on both tours will increase per event, paid down to the last 128 players. It is a significant increase that spreads rewards much further through the field rather than concentrating money at the top few places.
“We’re also delighted to be increasing investment in the Challenge and Development Tours, providing greater opportunities and rewards for players throughout the professional pathway,” Porter added.
Full Tour Card Holder status remains the entry point for the new European Open, tying the elite event directly into the existing qualification structure covered in our report on European Tour entries and seeds.
