Our Leeds vs Man Utd predicted lineups include Lisandro Martinez after Michael Carrick confirmed his availability, while Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo remain fitness-dependent selections.
Leeds also have a potential return to consider, with Daniel James back in training, although Joe Rodon will miss Sunday’s meeting at Elland Road.
The Premier League fixture kicks off at 2pm BST on Sunday 18 October. Manchester United are seeking a response to their Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid, while Leeds return home after losing 2–1 at Arsenal.
Man Utd team news: Martinez available after apology
Carrick has confirmed Martinez remains available following the defender’s criticism of the club’s hierarchy and subsequent apology.
The United manager said the group had moved on from the incident, as reported by Reuters following Friday’s press conference.
Our report on Martinez’s apology and talks with the club explains the background.
Martinez is our predicted selection alongside Harry Maguire, with Diogo Dalot at right-back.
His availability should be distinguished from a guaranteed starting place, but there is no disciplinary exclusion preventing Carrick from selecting him.
Shaw and Mainoo face fitness decisions
Shaw and Mainoo missed the trip to Atletico and remain uncertain for Sunday.
Our prediction includes both, on the assumption they recover sufficiently to start. If either fails his assessment, Carrick will need to change the left-back or central midfield selection.
According to the Standard’s latest United team-news report, Noussair Mazraoui’s return to training could also improve the defensive options, although his readiness remains a consideration.
Carlos Baleba is our choice alongside Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes restored to the central attacking role.
Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are selected in support of Matheus Cunha. Their positioning and support for midfield will matter as United try to address the problems explored in our analysis of Carrick’s pressing setup.
Leeds team news: James back training, Rodon still out
Daniel Farke has confirmed James is back on the training pitch after a back problem, but his involvement depends on how he responds to the remaining sessions.
In Leeds’ official fitness update, Farke also confirmed Rodon is progressing in his rehabilitation but will not be available against United.
Our prediction retains James Justin, Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic in the back three.
Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson provide the width, with Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka in central midfield.
Anton Stach and Noah Okafor are selected behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, giving Leeds options to support the striker and compete for second balls.
