Lisandro Martinez apology follows Man Utd talks

Lisandro Martinez has apologised for his criticism of Manchester United’s hierarchy after meeting Michael Carrick and senior club officials on Thursday.

The defender had questioned United’s recruitment following Tuesday’s 2–0 Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid, singling out director of football Jason Wilcox over the backing given to the manager.

Lisandro Martinez apology follows earlier statement

Martinez acknowledged that his comments had undermined the unity he wanted to see at Old Trafford.

“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that,” he said in his statement reported by Sky Sports.

The Argentina international explained that frustration after the defeat had influenced his decision to speak publicly. He apologised for the timing and setting of his remarks, while expressing confidence that everyone at United shared the same ambitions.

It marked a change from Wednesday’s statement, which defended the concerns behind his criticism without including an apology.

His original interview after the Atletico defeat had called for greater investment and questioned whether repeatedly changing managers would address the club’s problems.

United consider matter closed before Leeds trip

A club source told Reuters that United considered the matter closed, with any internal disciplinary action remaining private.

The source also said the decision to apologise publicly had been Martinez’s own.

Carrick’s side now turn their attention to Sunday’s trip to Leeds. The defeat in Madrid extended their winless run to five matches across all competitions, leaving United needing a response on the pitch.
