Manchester United surrendered another Premier League lead as Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener to earn Leeds a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Mbeumo struck in the 35th minute on Sunday, but Calvert-Lewin brought the hosts level six minutes into the second half. United were unable to find a winner, leaving Michael Carrick’s side with just one victory from their opening seven league matches.

The frustration was familiar. Mbeumo had also put United ahead in their draw with Tottenham last weekend, only for the advantage to disappear. Two successive league games have now brought the same scorer, the same lead and the same result.

Leeds 1-1 Man Utd: Mbeumo strikes before the break

Youri Tielemans supplied the opening goal, delivering a low cross which Mbeumo converted to beat James Trafford.

It gave United a half-time advantage and an opportunity to turn a difficult away fixture into a much-needed victory. Leeds, however, responded strongly after the interval.

Calvert-Lewin seized on a loose ball following a corner to beat Senne Lammens and restore parity. The equaliser changed the afternoon for United, who had gone from protecting their lead to facing a home side pushing for a second.

Mazraoui intervention preserves the point

Noussair Mazraoui cleared Anton Stach’s effort off the line in stoppage time to prevent Leeds taking all three points.

That intervention ensured United avoided defeat, but it could not disguise another missed opportunity to improve their league return.

Mbeumo’s goals have given Carrick something to build on in consecutive league matches. United have collected only two points from them.

What the result means

United move to seven points from seven matches, with one win, four draws and two defeats. Their wait for a second league victory continues.

Leeds reach 10 points and remain three ahead of their opponents. Daniel Farke’s side have lost only once in their opening seven league games, although four draws underline the importance of converting more competitive performances into victories.
