Greece v England: Kick-off time, TV and World Cup route

Greece v England begins the Lionesses’ World Cup play-off campaign on Friday, with Sarina Wiegman’s side needing to win two rounds to reach next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

England finished second behind Spain in their qualifying group despite winning five of their six matches. They now face Greece over two legs, with another tie awaiting the winners.

When is Greece v England?

The first leg takes place on Friday 9 October at the Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion, Crete.

Kick-off is at 5.30pm BST, which is 7.30pm local time.

It will be the first meeting between the countries in senior women’s international football.

How can I watch Greece v England?

The match will be shown live on ITV, according to England Football’s broadcast guide.

The FA also lists ITV as the broadcaster for the return leg.

When is England’s home leg?

England host Greece at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium on Tuesday 13 October, with kick-off at 7.30pm BST.

The tie will be decided across the two matches.

Will beating Greece qualify England for the World Cup?

England must also win a second play-off tie to qualify.

Victory over Greece would set up a meeting with either Slovakia or Ukraine, again over two legs. England would play away first and host the return.

The second-round window runs from 26 November to 5 December.

Under the qualification format explained by the FA, England’s ranking means winning both rounds would secure their World Cup place directly, without an intercontinental play-off.
