Lexi Potter says there is plenty she can learn from Keira Walsh as their midfield partnership develops for Chelsea and England.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Potter said: “There aren’t many players better in the number six role than Keira to learn from.”
She wants to incorporate aspects of Walsh’s game into her own and expects their understanding to improve with more playing time.
The opportunity to learn from Walsh was also highlighted by Alessia Russo after Potter’s England debut, with the Arsenal striker impressed by how quickly the midfielder had settled into the senior squad.
Lexi Potter’s Chelsea role grows
Potter has made nine appearances across Chelsea’s opening ten matches this season. Her WSL playing time stands at 376 minutes.
That involvement at club level preceded her first England appearance against Greece on 13 October, when Sarina Wiegman selected her alongside Walsh and Georgia Stanway at the King Power Stadium.
Potter almost marked the occasion with a goal, but her effort was disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
“In training, straight away you could tell she’s ready for this level,” Russo told England Football after the match.
England’s 5–0 second-leg victory completed an 8–1 aggregate win. They will face Ukraine in the next round of the qualifying play-offs for a place at the 2027 World Cup.
