Colin Kazim-Richards Sacked by Crawley Town

Assistant Julian Gray and director of football Erdem Konyar also leave following Tuesday’s defeat by Shrewsbury, which kept Crawley six points from safety.

Crawley Town have sacked head coach Colin Kazim-Richards after a 3–2 home defeat by Shrewsbury left them bottom of League Two with one win from their opening 10 matches.

Assistant head coach Julian Gray has also been dismissed, while director of football Erdem Konyar is leaving the club.

Crawley have five points, five fewer than Northampton in 23rd and six behind Rotherham, who occupy the final position above the relegation places.

In their announcement confirming the departures, Crawley thanked Kazim-Richards and Gray for helping preserve the club’s EFL status last season. They also acknowledged Konyar’s contribution since his return last year.

The club did not name a replacement in the statement.

Late Shrewsbury winner ends Kazim-Richards’ reign

Tuesday’s defeat was particularly damaging after Crawley twice appeared to have something to build on.

Ade Adeyemo gave them an early lead before Josh Davison and George Lloyd turned the match in Shrewsbury’s favour. Dylan Morgan equalised late on, only for Davison to score again in stoppage time.

It left Crawley without a point on a night when Northampton also lost and Rotherham drew.

Speaking to BBC Radio Surrey after the match, before his dismissal was announced, Kazim-Richards said he still believed he could turn results around.

“I feel I can. If I’m given the time is another question,” he said.

Kazim-Richards took charge in March and helped Crawley avoid relegation before signing a new contract in May. They finished last season one place and one point above the bottom two.

That survival earned him the opportunity to lead the side into this campaign, but seven defeats in 10 league matches have brought his first senior managerial job to an end.

Crawley’s next fixture is at home to Tranmere on Saturday, 24 October.
