Alexis Mac Allister leads our Liverpool player ratings after Andoni Iraola’s side came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Víctor Muñoz and Alexander Isak scored after Keane Lewis-Potter’s opener, with Brentford finishing with nine men following the dismissals of Yegor Yarmolyuk and Vitaly Janelt.

Liverpool had 60% possession and 21 shots, but injuries to Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong complicated an afternoon which ultimately delivered three points.

How we rate: these are editorial marks out of 10, informed by reported match action and statistics. N/R indicates insufficient playing time.

Liverpool player ratings: goalkeeper and defence

Alisson — 6/10

Made one save as Brentford managed two efforts on target. Beaten by Lewis-Potter’s header, but Liverpool protected his goal more effectively after the break.

Ronald Araújo — 5/10

Started at right-back but was replaced at half-time with Liverpool trailing. Iraola introduced Frimpong as he sought a more attacking option against Brentford’s 10 men.

Jérémy Jacquet — 7/10

Made important defensive interventions during the difficult opening half. Was on the receiving end of Yarmolyuk’s headbutt and later collected a booking himself. One of Liverpool’s stronger defensive performers.

Virgil van Dijk — 6.5/10

Completed the match at the heart of a defence which conceded from another cross. Liverpool prevented further damage after the interval, although the numerical advantage must be considered when assessing that improvement.

Milos Kerkez — 6.5/10

Played the full match at left-back while Liverpool repeatedly changed personnel on the opposite flank. A supporting contribution on an afternoon decided by the midfield and forwards.

Midfield: Mac Allister takes responsibility

Alexis Mac Allister — 8/10

Liverpool’s standout performer. His cross towards Barcola began the move for Isak’s winner, an important contribution which will not appear in the assist column. Took on greater responsibility after Szoboszlai departed and helped drive the recovery.

Dominik Szoboszlai — 6/10

His return in the Liverpool starting line-up lasted only 32 minutes before injury forced him off. Limited opportunity to influence the contest.

Florian Wirtz — 7.5/10

Provided the pass for Muñoz’s equaliser. That contribution helped Liverpool turn their extra possession into something decisive, opening the way for the comeback.

Attack: Muñoz and Isak deliver

Víctor Muñoz — 7.5/10

Adapted after being moved to right-back following Frimpong’s injury. Still found a way to influence the attack, cutting inside to score the equaliser. An important combination of flexibility and quality.

Bradley Barcola — 6.5/10

A mixed afternoon for one of our Premier League players to watch. His headed assist supplied Isak, but missed opportunities and poor decisions on late breaks prevented Liverpool from making the result safer.

Alexander Isak — 7.5/10

Delivered the decisive finish, controlling Barcola’s headed pass before scoring in the 70th minute. Liverpool needed composure in the penalty area and he provided it.

Liverpool substitute ratings

Trey Nyoni — 6.5/10

Replaced Szoboszlai after 32 minutes and played the remainder alongside Mac Allister. A substantial assignment after the early injury disrupted Iraola’s midfield plans.

Jeremie Frimpong — N/R

Introduced at half-time but forced off injured six minutes later.

Rio Ngumoha — 7/10

Replaced Frimpong and gave Liverpool another attacking option. Drew the foul which brought Janelt’s second booking in stoppage time.

Joe Gomez — 6/10

Replaced Muñoz in the 79th minute as Liverpool sought to protect their lead.

Lewis Koumas — 5.5/10

Came on for Isak but was among those unable to make the most of Liverpool’s late counter-attacking opportunities.

Unused substitutes: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Wataru Endo, Cody Gakpo and Kostas Tsimikas, according to the FotMob match centre.
