Brentford Refer Rugby Ball Incident to Police After Liverpool Match

The club are supporting an investigation into Saturday’s incident at the Gtech Community Stadium and have warned that those responsible could face prosecution.

Brentford have referred a rugby ball incident to police after an object was kicked from a height towards the pitch during Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

The club confirmed on Monday 19 October that they were helping the authorities identify those responsible for the incident at the Gtech Community Stadium.

In their official statement, Brentford said: “Such behaviour is dangerous and potentially very harmful.”

They added that the investigation could lead to criminal prosecution and said protecting supporters, staff, players and officials was their priority.

Footage emerges from outside the stadium

Reuters reported that footage circulating on social media appeared to show a man kicking a rugby ball from a nearby rooftop towards the ground.

The ball appeared to strike the stadium roof, while a separate clip showed a member of staff carrying it away.

Brentford’s statement described an item being kicked towards the field of play. It did not identify anyone involved or announce an arrest or charge. The club said they would support the authorities in taking appropriate action.

The incident occurred during Brentford’s 2-1 defeat by Liverpool on Saturday 17 October.

Keane Lewis-Potter put the hosts ahead before Victor Muñoz and Alexander Isak completed Liverpool’s comeback. Brentford finished the match with nine players following the dismissals of Yehor Yarmoliuk and Vitaly Janelt.
