Birmingham vs Swansea brings together two Championship promotion contenders at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday 7 November, with kick-off at 3pm UK time. Chris Davies’ side are chasing a fourth consecutive home league victory, while Swansea need a response to their late defeat at Portsmouth.

Both clubs have 26 points from 14 matches, but their recent results tell different stories. Birmingham have won five of their last six league games, while Swansea have lost three of their last four.

Birmingham vs Swansea preview: home form gives Blues the edge

Birmingham beat Millwall 3-0 on Tuesday, with Alex Cochrane, Max Bird and Jay Stansfield scoring before half-time. Bird marked his first start for the club with a goal and an assist.

That result extended Birmingham’s unbeaten home league record this season to seven matches: three wins and four draws. Their last three Championship games at St Andrew’s have produced three victories, 10 goals and none conceded, according to Sports Mole’s match preview.

Swansea’s latest away game ended painfully. Zan Vipotnik equalised at Portsmouth, but two stoppage-time goals condemned Vitor Matos’ side to a 3-1 defeat.

The visitors have already shown their attacking quality by beating Blackburn 4-0. Their challenge is to reproduce that level away from home against opponents whose confidence is growing.

Birmingham City team news: Priske doubtful, Paik back training

August Priske remains a doubt after taking a heavy knock. Davies said the striker had made progress but would need another assessment before a decision on his involvement.

There is better news on Paik Seung-ho and Dael Fry. Paik has returned to full training, while Fry has also been training and is ready to return to contention, according to Hayters’ report of Davies’ team news.

James Beadle is expected to remain unavailable. Ryan Allsop is therefore expected to continue in goal, although Birmingham’s starting XI has not been confirmed.

Analysis: Bird and Stansfield’s performances against Millwall give Davies reason to retain the attacking combination even if Priske becomes available. His fitness will influence the options from the bench as well as the starting selection.

Swansea City team news: Eom and Yeo available

Jisung Eom and Moussa Yeo are available again, giving Matos more attacking options. Eom has recovered from the knocks he suffered against Blackburn, while Yeo has resumed normal training.

Stephen Welsh avoided a serious injury after coming off at Portsmouth. His scan was clear, but Matos said the defender still required assessment before Saturday, as Hayters reported from the Swansea press conference.

Melker Widell will miss the match with a grade-one hamstring strain. Matos expects him back after the international break.

Stephen Eustáquio is also absent with a groin problem, while Cameron Burgess and Ronald remain sidelined. Ben Cabango is available after the fitness issue that affected his preparation for Portsmouth, according to Swansea Bay News’ injury update.

Birmingham vs Swansea prediction

Analysis: Birmingham’s recent home performances make them the stronger choice, particularly with Swansea missing midfield options and still assessing Welsh.

Eom and Yeo’s returns should help the visitors carry more attacking threat. However, Swansea need greater defensive control than they showed late at Portsmouth if they are to take anything from this trip.

The hosts have also shown they can score without Priske, with three different players finding the net against Millwall.

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-1 Swansea City.
