Adrian Lewis Launches Ashbourne Darts Venue in PDC Grassroots Scheme
Adrian Lewis launches a new facility at Mayfield Memorial Hall in Ashbourne as part of the PDC and Smart Energy GB Darts on Your Doorstep initiative.
Adrian Lewis Opens Ashbourne Darts Facility at Mayfield Memorial Hall
Adrian Lewis opened a new darts facility at Mayfield Memorial Hall in Ashbourne on Sunday. It marked the latest stop on the PDC’s Darts on Your Doorstep scheme. The Adrian Lewis Ashbourne darts event drew local club members keen to see one of the sport’s most recognisable names up close.
Lewis took part in a Q&A session first. He then played exhibition matches against local players on the venue’s newly installed boards. For fans who followed his career at the top level, our piece on iconic Adrian Lewis moments traces some of the highlights that made him a household name in the sport.
PDC and Smart Energy GB Details on Grassroots Community Scheme
The PDC in the Community scheme launched in November 2024. It is delivered in partnership with Smart Energy GB, funding upgrades at grassroots darts venues across the country. Sunday’s visit to Ashbourne formed part of that ongoing rollout.
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter said:
Since the launch of our Darts on Your Doorstep initiative in November 2024, the impact on clubs around the country has been significant. I’m delighted that we can continue working with Smart Energy GB to promote the benefits of smart meters across Britain, as well as transform the darts facilities of grassroots venues. It has been hugely rewarding to see so many clubs throughout the country benefitting from the scheme, because darts plays such a crucial role for so many communities.
Christina Panayiotou, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at Smart Energy GB, added:
It’s so important that local darts clubs are being improved and renewed through the Darts on Your Doorstep programme, so that they can continue to be enjoyed by darts fans and players for years to come. We hope that the information sessions will also prove a useful resource for people in the community. A smart meter can be a really useful tool for helping people to know how much energy they are using at home, how much it costs, and to find small ways to save on their bills.
Grassroots Venue Upgrades and PDC Stars Supporting Local Clubs
More than 50 UK clubs have received new facilities through the scheme since it began in November 2024. Each visit pairs a venue upgrade with an appearance from a current PDC player. That gives members a rare chance to meet a professional on their own patch.
Lewis joins a list of stars who have already opened facilities under the initiative. They include Stephen Bunting, Luke Humphries, Chris Dobey, Jonny Clayton, Damon Heta and Mark Webster. His appearance follows recent discussion about his career, covered in our piece on Adrian Lewis retirement predictions, though Sunday’s event centred entirely on the new Ashbourne venue.
Darts on Your Doorstep Rollout and Community Session Timeline
Alongside the exhibition matches, the visit included information sessions on smart meters. These form part of the scheme’s wider community remit. The Adrian Lewis Ashbourne darts visit adds Mayfield Memorial Hall to a growing list of upgraded venues supported by the programme. Full details of the day are set out in the PDC official announcement.
The scheme continues to add venues throughout the year. Further PDC players are expected to open upgraded facilities at clubs across the UK in the coming months.
