Luke Littler European Championship 2026: Dortmund Set Bid

Luke Littler starts his hunt for the one major he has not won against William O'Connor on Friday night in Dortmund. Victory would make him the youngest to complete the set.

European Championship Darts Saturday Schedule: Littler vs Aspinall

The Luke Littler European Championship 2026 campaign begins on Friday night, October 23rd, when he plays Ireland’s William O’Connor in the first round in Dortmund. It is the only traditional major the 19-year-old has yet to win, and victory on Sunday would make him the youngest player to complete the set.

Littler told Radio Times the Europeans are “the big one”. For me, that tells you how much this one matters to him. He arrives short of his usual level, with the pressure of history on him and a hostile crowd waiting.

Luke Littler World Championship Record: Seven Majors, One Missing

Littler has won 30 PDC singles titles, including the World Championship, World Masters, UK Open, World Matchplay, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. The back-to-back world champion would become just the third player to win all eight majors, after Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

He has been open about the target. “Ever since coming on tour, I said I wanted to win one of everything, complete the whole set, and then try and win more and more,” he said. “But yeah, the Europeans are the big one.”

The set is not only a Littler story. Luke Humphries has won six of the eight traditional majors and still needs the European Championship and the UK Open. Littler knows it: “I know he needs the Europeans as well.”

Luke Littler Dortmund Darts: Hostile Crowd, Shaky Form

This is a rare dip by his standards. Littler failed to win the World Series of Darts Finals and the World Grand Prix, where he lost in the first round to Luke Woodhouse. He also lost to Cam Crabtree in the semi-finals of the World Youth Championship.

He has largely avoided Germany this year, so Dartsnews expects him to face around 15,000 jeering fans. He has handled that before, though. He won the World Cup for England despite abuse from the crowd.

Littler 2026 Key Number Figure
Seeding in Dortmund 11th
Euro Tour record 11-1 (legs 77-35)
Euro Tour titles Events 1 and 12
Long-format record (first to 8+) 17-2
12-month average 101.33
12-month first-nine average 111.75

The 11th seeding comes from his small Euro Tour sample, which is covered in why Littler is seeded 11th.

O’Connor Is No Pushover

O’Connor is the 22nd seed and beat Michael van Gerwen 6-5 on the Euro Tour last week. His first-nine average of 101.87 is close to Littler’s overall standard, and the Irishman has built his form over two years. Dartsnews notes that Littler averages 8.04 points more than him this year.

If Littler gets through, he plays the winner of Nathan Aspinall v Cristo Reyes in round two. Aspinall is the sixth seed and set a record 105.15 average at the World Grand Prix. You can see the rest of the bracket in our European Championship draw story.

European Darts Championship 2026: Humphries, Van Veen and the Field

Humphries opens the tournament on Thursday against World Championship semi-finalist Ryan Searle. He won the World Grand Prix after Littler’s exit, his first major since May 2025. “I don’t think the sport is in that position where you can just go and dominate,” he told RTE.

Defending champion Gian van Veen opens against Andrew Gilding. “It would mean absolutely everything to retain the title,” the Dutchman said. The full first-night card is in our day one order of play.

The event starts at 6pm on Thursday, October 22nd, and is live on ITV4 and ITVX. Our Dortmund TV guide has the full schedule.

World Darts Championship: What Dortmund Means For His Defence

Littler remains the two-time defending world champion whatever happens here. Winning in Dortmund would put the full set behind him before he defends. Another early exit would add to the “drought” talk before the biggest event of the year.

He has one more date to keep in mind. Beat Luke Littler goes out live on Netflix on October 30th, with 20 amateurs each able to win £501,000 by beating him over a single 501 leg. Follow the rest of the season in our PDC majors coverage.

Jack’s Verdict

I think Littler wins this, and the numbers are why: 11-1 on the Euro Tour, 17-2 in the long formats and a 101.33 average over 12 months. The wobbles against Woodhouse, Clayton and Crabtree are real, and O’Connor beating Van Gerwen 6-5 shows he will not be scared. A German crowd will test him. He still raised his level at the World Cup. The best outcome for the sport is a Littler v Humphries final on Sunday, with both men going for the set.

Your questions answered

When does Luke Littler play at the European Championship?

Littler plays William O’Connor in the first round on Friday night, October 23rd, in Dortmund. The tournament opens at 6pm on Thursday, October 22nd, and finishes on Sunday. It is live on ITV4 and ITVX. If he wins, he meets the winner of Nathan Aspinall v Cristo Reyes in round two.

Has Luke Littler ever won the European Championship?

No. It is the only traditional major he has not won. He has taken the World Championship, World Masters, UK Open, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. Winning in Dortmund would complete the set in his third year on the PDC circuit.

Who has won all eight darts majors?

Only Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have won all eight. Littler would become the third and the youngest if he wins in Dortmund. Luke Humphries has won six of the eight and needs the European Championship and UK Open to complete his own set.

Why is Luke Littler seeded 11th?

The field is the top 32 players on the 2026 European Tour. Littler largely stayed away from German events, playing 12 Euro Tour games. He won events 1 and 12 and lost only in event 3, an 11-1 record, but that sample still left him 11th. Our seedings explainer covers it in full.
