Arsenal player ratings vs Bayern Munich: Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze shine as Gunners earn a point
Declan Rice delivered when Arsenal needed him, scoring the late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich after Eberechi Eze had made his mark from the bench.
Declan Rice delivered when Arsenal needed him, scoring the late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich after Eberechi Eze had made his mark from the bench.
Eze replaced the injured Bukayo Saka and put Arsenal ahead, but Alphonso Davies and a Harry Kane penalty turned the match around. Rice’s intervention ensured Mikel Arteta’s side left Munich with a point.
After Noni Madueke’s winner at Nottingham Forest, Arsenal needed a different match-winner in Germany — and Rice supplied the finish to avoid defeat.
David Raya also played a significant part, while Viktor Gyokeres supplied the assist for the equaliser after replacing Kai Havertz. Both changes are recorded in the full team sheet and substitutions.
Arsenal player ratings vs Bayern Munich
David Raya — 8/10
His close-range stop from Dayot Upamecano’s header was outstanding. Bayern had opportunities to take the game away from Arsenal, and Raya’s contribution deserves its place alongside the two goals.
Jurrien Timber — 5/10
The handball which gave Kane his penalty was the costly moment. It left Arsenal chasing a game they had led, although Timber nearly supplied a late winner when Manuel Neuer tipped over his curling effort.
Ezri Konsa — 6/10
A demanding examination against Kane and Bayern’s runners. Arsenal allowed too much space when the hosts broke forward, and Konsa’s first-half booking added another complication to an already difficult assignment.
Gabriel — 6/10
Part of a defence which found Bayern’s movement harder to contain than Arteta would have wanted. Arsenal recovered the result, but this was not a night on which their centre-backs could claim to have controlled the opposition attack.
Riccardo Calafiori — 6/10
Willing to join the attack and take up advanced positions. That ambition gave Arsenal another option, but he will regret failing to make more of his opportunity from a set-piece delivery.
Bruno Guimaraes — 7/10
Came desperately close to restoring Arsenal’s lead shortly after half-time. His header from Rice’s corner required an exceptional save from Neuer, who turned the ball against the bar.
Declan Rice — 8/10
Arsenal’s decisive player. His run and finish for the equaliser showed the conviction the situation demanded, while his corner had already created a major chance for Guimaraes. Kept a difficult European away game within reach and then changed the result.
Bukayo Saka — NR
Forced off early through injury. Too little playing time for a fair assessment, with attention now turning to Arsenal’s update on his condition.
Martin Odegaard — 8/10
His pass for Eze’s opener was the outstanding piece of invention behind Arsenal’s first goal. Picked out a run which deserved rewarding and supplied the quality to do it.
Noni Madueke — 6/10
Unable to follow his winner at Nottingham Forest with another decisive attacking contribution. His recovery work mattered, though, particularly when he tracked back to help stop a Bayern break.
Kai Havertz — 5/10
A frustrating evening without a goal or assist before his withdrawal. Gyokeres subsequently helped create the equaliser, giving Arsenal a more productive return from their change up front.
Substitutes
Eberechi Eze — 8/10
Made an immediate case for himself after replacing Saka. Timed his run for Odegaard’s pass and finished to put Arsenal ahead, then continued to ask questions of Bayern with the ball at his feet.
Viktor Gyokeres — 7/10
Delivered the contribution Arsenal needed from their substitute striker. His pass released Rice for the equaliser, turning an opportunity off the bench into a tangible influence on the result.
Myles Lewis-Skelly — 6/10
Introduced for Guimaraes as Arsenal sought a way back. Part of the side which recovered a point, although the decisive attacking work came from Rice and Gyokeres.
Mikel Merino — NR
Replaced Odegaard late on. Insufficient time for a meaningful mark.
