Twenty-two seasons, nine different champions and one record that took eighteen years to break. The Premier League Darts winners list is the closest thing the sport has to a map of its modern era — from Phil Taylor’s stranglehold on the mid-2000s to Michael van Gerwen’s record seven titles, and now to a teenager winning it back to back. Here is every champion, and what each one says about the era they won in.

Taylor built it, then Van Gerwen took it

The Premier League launched in 2005 as a made-for-television league for darts’ elite, and Taylor treated it like a private members’ club. He won the first four editions, added 2010 and 2012, and finished with six titles — a haul that looked untouchable for most of a decade.

Van Gerwen touched it, then went past it. The Dutchman won back-to-back in 2013 and 2014, then produced the sequence that defines his career in the competition: four in a row from 2016 to 2019. His seventh, in 2023, moved him clear of Taylor and made him the most successful player in the event’s history. For a player whose ranking position has slipped in 2026 — he sits outside the top five of the PDC Order of Merit — that record is still the hardest number in darts to argue with.

The interruptions that mattered

Only two men broke up the Taylor and Van Gerwen years while both were in their prime, and neither win was a fluke.

James Wade took the 2009 title in the middle of Taylor’s reign, the high point of a career built on left-handed precision rather than raw scoring. Gary Anderson did it twice, beating Taylor in the 2011 final and Van Gerwen in 2015 — the only player to have taken the trophy off both record holders.

Then came a run of first-time winners. Glen Durrant landed the strangest season of all in 2020, a campaign split in half by the pandemic and finished behind closed doors, and he did it as a Premier League debutant — a former BDO world champion arriving late and winning at the first attempt. Jonny Clayton followed in 2021 and Michael Smith in 2022, both maiden Premier League titles, both from players who would go on to win ranking majors of their own.

Humphries, then Littler

The 2024 edition was the first of the Littler era, and it went to Luke Humphries. He beat Littler in the final at The O2, months after doing the same thing in the World Championship final at Alexandra Palace — the night that still anchors the Littler–Humphries rivalry.

Littler has taken the two since. He won in 2025, then defended the title in 2026 with an 11–10 win over Humphries at The O2 on 28 May — one leg, on the league’s biggest night, against the only player who reliably drags him that far. It made him a multiple Premier League winner at 19, and it was one of five major titles he has collected in a season that has turned into a clean-sweep chase.

Why the format change matters to the list

Comparing champions across those 22 years is not quite like-for-like. Until 2022 the Premier League ran as a genuine league — a table built over months of weekly fixtures, with the leading players going into play-offs at the end. From 2023 the PDC reshaped it into 16 nights of knockout mini-tournaments, each night producing a winner worth five table points, with the top four reaching the play-offs at The O2.

The change rewards a different skill. The old format let a player grind out a season and peak in May; the new one asks for a knockout win almost every week. Van Gerwen won titles under both, which is part of why his seven carries the weight it does.

Who wins the 2027 Premier League?

The eight-player field is confirmed by the PDC over the winter and it is not simply the top eight of the rankings — the PDC selects it, with the world champion the one certainty. Nothing has been announced yet, and the autumn majors that shape those calls have not been played: the World Grand Prix runs from 28 September to 4 October, the European Championship from 22 to 25 October, the Grand Slam of Darts from 14 to 22 November, the Players Championship Finals from 27 to 29 November, and the World Championship from 10 December to 3 January 2027.

What is certain is that a third straight title for Littler would put him in company only two men have kept: Taylor (2005–08) and Van Gerwen (2016–19) are the only players to have won three or more Premier Leagues in a row. Line-ups, dates and prize money are confirmed on the PDC’s official site, our list of every PDC world champion since 1994 is the companion piece to this one, and our guide to watching darts in 2026 has the channels for the whole run-in.
