Tottenham secured their first Premier League win of the season as spectacular goals from James Maddison and Omar Marmoush helped them beat Coventry City 3-1.
Ben Davies added a third in stoppage time after Jack Rudoni had briefly brought the visitors level early in the second half.
The victory ended Spurs’ six-match wait for a league win and lifted Roberto De Zerbi’s side off the bottom. Their three goals matched their total from the opening six league fixtures.
James Maddison marks starting return with stunning opener
Maddison made his first competitive start since May 2025, a milestone confirmed in Tottenham’s team announcement, and needed only 14 minutes to make his mark against his former club.
Mohammed Kudus supplied the ball outside the penalty area and Maddison curled a first-time shot beyond Carl Rushworth.
It gave Spurs a lead to protect after De Zerbi made five changes from the side that drew at Manchester United, bringing Maddison and Marmoush into the starting line-up.
Coventry remained within reach at the interval, however, and Rudoni equalised early in the second half after the ball broke his way inside the area.
Marmoush restores lead before Davies settles it
Marmoush provided Tottenham’s response in the 58th minute.
The forward turned away from his marker and curled a shot into the far corner from the left edge of the area, scoring his first Spurs goal.
Coventry continued to threaten, leaving the hosts with work to do before Davies finally settled the contest in the sixth minute of added time, as recorded in Sky Sports’ match centre.
There was another welcome moment for the home supporters when Dejan Kulusevski returned from his lengthy injury absence as a late substitute.
The evening also brought fresh fitness concerns. Andy Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo both went off with apparent injuries, with the severity of their problems awaiting clarification.
What Tottenham 3-1 Coventry means for the table
Spurs climb to 16th in the Premier League table on six points, ahead of Coventry on goal difference.
Frank Lampard’s side drop to 17th after their two-match winning run ended, while Fulham fall into the relegation zone.
For Tottenham, this was a much-needed response after another equaliser threatened to prolong their wait. Maddison and Marmoush supplied the decisive quality before Davies gave the scoreline a more comfortable look.
