Forest Green trial no-manager approach after Savage exit

Forest Green Rovers will continue without appointing a manager for now, with owner Dale Vince backing the club’s existing coaches following Robbie Savage’s departure.

Jonathan Gould, Josh Bowen and Yan Klukowski have taken responsibility for the team since Savage left to take charge of Peterborough United.

Vince says Forest Green have not held talks with potential replacements and want to assess how the shared arrangement works.

“Nobody’s in the frame, nobody’s connected to the job, at the minute there’s no vacancy,” he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire on Saturday, in comments reported here.

Who is in charge at Forest Green?

First-team coaches Bowen and Klukowski are working alongside Gould, whose responsibilities include goalkeeping and set pieces.

Vince believes their familiarity with the squad puts them in a position to make decisions together. He indicated the trial could last several matches or around a month, leaving its duration open.

The arrangement therefore does not amount to a commitment to complete the season without a manager.

Forest Green are seeking an improvement in results after Saturday’s 4–2 home defeat by Hartlepool left them 16th in the National League.

They have won four of their opening 12 league matches and are without a victory in five.
