Caicedo starts after fitness concern

Caicedo’s inclusion answers one of Chelsea’s main selection questions ahead of the trip. The midfielder had been due for a late assessment after reporting discomfort following the win over Manchester United.

He takes the captain’s armband, with Henderson also starting on his return to the Stadium of Light. Penders keeps his place in goal, while Marco Palestra, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Pep Chavarria are selected.

Brobbey starts for Sunderland

Brobbey is supported by a side including Chemsdine Talbi and Enzo Le Fée. Xhaka wears the armband, with Robin Roefs starting in goal.

Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor are among Sunderland’s options from the bench.
