Cunha decisive despite costly dismissal
Matheus Cunha — 8: The decisive contribution. His equaliser gave United hope and his powerful finish three minutes later turned the match around. Taking his shirt off earned an avoidable booking, however, and a subsequent late challenge brought a second yellow. Two excellent attacking moments, followed by an unnecessary risk to the result.
Bruno Fernandes — 7: Converted at the second attempt after his first penalty was saved and a retake ordered. An important contribution when United needed a way back into the game.
Bryan Mbeumo — 6: Desperately unfortunate when his effort struck both posts. That moment summed up a frustrating evening in front of goal, although United eventually found their finishing touch elsewhere.
Dalot and Heaven endure difficult evening
Diogo Dalot — 4: Left too much space on United’s left for Roma’s opening goal. The comeback should not disguise how vulnerable the hosts looked before the interval.
Ayden Heaven — 4: His handball gave Roma the penalty for their second goal. A difficult return to the starting side after replacing Lisandro Martínez.
Carlos Baleba — 4: Part of a midfield that struggled during the first-half collapse. His evening ended with an injury withdrawal, adding a fitness concern to Carrick’s list.
Substitute spotlight: Shea Lacey — 8
Lacey supplied the pass for Cunha’s winner and made a substantial contribution to the turnaround. His impact deserves recognition alongside the goalscorers.
