Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven come into Manchester United’s starting XI against Roma as Michael Carrick makes two changes from the side beaten at Chelsea.

The Manchester United vs Roma line-ups announcement sees Andrey Santos and Lisandro Martínez drop to the bench for Tuesday’s Champions League match at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes captains United, with kick-off at 8pm GMT.

United are looking to end a nine-match winless run in all competitions. Our Manchester United vs Roma preview examines the challenge facing Carrick’s side.

Manchester United confirmed starting XI against Roma

Manchester United: Lammens, Dalot, Maguire, Fernandes (captain), Cunha, Yoro, Amad, Mbeumo, Baleba, Heaven, Mainoo.

Substitutes: Darlow, Heaton, Amass, De Ligt, Martínez, Mazraoui, Andrey Santos, Mount, T. Fletcher, Tielemans, Lacey, Zirkzee.

Mainoo starts alongside Baleba

Mainoo is handed a starting place after returning from injury as a substitute in Saturday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge. He joins Carlos Baleba in midfield, with Andrey Santos among Carrick’s alternatives on the bench.

Speaking to United’s club media before the match, Mainoo described the players’ determination to turn their results around following his four-match injury absence.

“We’re one win away from turning it around,” he said.

United retain Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo in their starting line-up as they seek a response to the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Heaven gets his chance as Martínez drops to the bench

Heaven replaces Martínez in the starting side, with Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot also selected in defence. Senne Lammens continues in goal.

Martínez is named among the substitutes despite his dismissal at Chelsea. His inclusion gives Carrick another defensive option alongside Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Harry Amass.

Mason Mount, Youri Tielemans and Joshua Zirkzee are also available from the bench, while Mainoo’s promotion means Andrey Santos could be called upon later in the match.
