Cam Crabtree has a World Youth Championship final to prepare for after beating Luke Littler. His route there includes achievements that deserve attention beyond the name of his semi-final opponent.

The Englishman’s 6-5 victory on Monday earned a meeting with Germany’s Jan Schmidt at Minehead on 29 November. For readers discovering Crabtree through that result, there is already a substantial record of progress to explore.

Challenge Tour titles, a professional Tour Card and a season at the top of the Development Tour all came before this latest breakthrough.

Who is Cam Crabtree?

Crabtree competes under the nickname “Shazam” and has built his career through the PDC’s development and professional circuits.

His early milestones include a Challenge Tour nine-darter in 2022 and two tournament victories on that circuit in 2023, according to his sponsor Mission’s player profile.

He subsequently reached the semi-finals of Players Championship 13 in July 2024 while competing as a top-up player.

That sequence matters when assessing Monday’s result. Crabtree had already demonstrated that he could win tournaments and put together a deep run against professional opposition before securing a permanent place on the tour.

Beating Littler adds a particularly recognisable name to that story, but the foundations were in place much earlier.

How did Crabtree earn his Tour Card?

Crabtree secured his first PDC Tour Card at UK Q-School in January 2025.

PDC Europe’s announcement lists him among the players who qualified through the UK Order of Merit. That gave him a two-year card and a more established place on the professional circuit.

The distinction is useful for anyone encountering him through the World Youth Championship. Crabtree entered the tournament with professional experience behind him, rather than making his first steps into senior competition.

A youth final can therefore represent a significant achievement for a player who is already building a career among the professionals. The two paths overlap.

Five titles made 2025 a breakthrough season

Crabtree also finished top of the 2025 Development Tour rankings after winning five events.

Three of those titles came during one weekend in Hildesheim. He then added further victories, with his fifth arriving through a 5-2 win over Viktor Tingstrom in the Event 22 final.

Mission’s season recap confirmed that his ranking success earned a place at the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts.

That sustained achievement provides a broader view of his progress than any single upset. Winning repeatedly across a season requires a player to return and deliver after the attention from an earlier success has passed.

Our assessment is that the ranking title remains an important part of Crabtree’s profile: evidence of consistency alongside the ability to produce a standout result.

How did he beat Luke Littler?

Littler entered as the top seed, as explained in Dave’s World Youth Championship preview.

Crabtree’s semi-final win required him to respond after losing an early advantage. He led 2-0 before Littler moved ahead, then recovered to reach the brink of victory himself.

According to Sky Sports’ report, Littler forced a deciding leg with a 117 checkout. Crabtree answered by holding his throw in 16 darts and finishing on double six.

The result was close, but Crabtree completed the decisive leg under pressure. That is the performance worth recognising, without needing to turn it into a prediction about either player’s entire career.

What comes next for Crabtree?

Schmidt awaits in the final at Butlin’s Minehead Resort on Sunday 29 November, during the Players Championship Finals weekend.

Crabtree has earned the opportunity to turn a memorable semi-final into a title. The remaining match also gives this story a clear next chapter.

For anyone introduced to him by the Littler result, the final offers a chance to follow a player whose progress has already stretched across several seasons and levels of the sport.
