Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Injury: PSG Confirm ACL Rupture

Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos also face spells out after picking up thigh injuries during Tuesday’s victory.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona.

PSG confirmed in a medical update on Wednesday that the Georgia winger will have an operation in the coming days.

The 25-year-old was replaced by Maghnes Akliouche in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes, having struck the post early in the match.

His injury overshadowed another significant European victory for Luis Enrique’s side, who followed last week’s 4-2 win at Manchester City by beating Barcelona to maintain their perfect start to the league phase.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia injury: has PSG given a return date?

PSG have not announced a recovery timetable.

The club’s statement confirms the ligament rupture and planned surgery, but does not specify when Kvaratskhelia could resume training or whether he is expected to play again this season.

That leaves his return date unconfirmed, with further updates needed after the operation.

What has PSG said about Dembélé and Marquinhos?

Dembélé suffered an injury to his left thigh, while captain Marquinhos sustained a right-thigh injury.

PSG said both players will receive treatment over the coming weeks. Neither was given a specific return date.

Dembélé went off during the first half against Barcelona, with Ferran Torres coming on. Marquinhos was replaced by Illia Zabarnyi at the same time as Kvaratskhelia’s departure.

Luis Enrique therefore lost three members of his starting line-up before the hour, although late goals from Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz secured the victory after Barcelona had twice drawn level.

How significant is Kvaratskhelia’s absence?

Kvaratskhelia was named UEFA’s Champions League Player of the Season for 2025/26 after helping PSG retain the trophy.

UEFA records 10 goals and six assists in 16 appearances during that campaign. His absence removes a major source of goals and creativity from the holders’ attack as they pursue a third successive title.

PSG have won their opening three league-phase matches this season. Their remaining European fixtures before Christmas, listed in UEFA’s confirmed schedule, are:

DateFixture
Tuesday 3 NovemberVillarreal away
Wednesday 25 NovemberRoma home
Tuesday 8 DecemberAston Villa away

The club has not yet confirmed which of those matches Dembélé and Marquinhos could be available for.
