Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt has urged Hector Patterson to concentrate on his club performances as the young scrum-half attracts Scotland speculation and reported interest from English and French clubs.
The 21-year-old has helped Edinburgh win their opening two United Rugby Championship matches, having made his senior debut only in April.
According to RugbyPass, Everitt wants Patterson to maintain that progress rather than become distracted by talk of international selection.
Hector Patterson takes Edinburgh opportunity
Patterson’s emergence has come at an important time for Edinburgh’s scrum-half options.
Ben Vellacott is sidelined until December following shoulder surgery, while new signing Louie Chapman is completing his commitments with Canterbury in New Zealand.
Patterson is set to continue at scrum-half for Saturday’s trip to Zebre.
Reported interest follows breakthrough
The former Scotland Under-20 international signed a one-year professional contract in April.
RugbyPass reports that clubs in the English Premiership and French Top 14 are monitoring his development.
For Edinburgh, retaining his services and sustaining his early-season form are becoming increasingly significant as he establishes himself at senior level.
