Brian Brobbey to miss Lech Poznan as Sunderland boss Régis Le Bris expects return against Leeds

Brian Brobbey will miss Sunderland’s Europa League match against Lech Poznan, but Régis Le Bris expects the striker to be ready for Sunday’s home game against Leeds United.

Brian Brobbey injury update: when could he return?

Brian Brobbey will miss Sunderland’s Europa League match against Lech Poznan, but Régis Le Bris expects the striker to be ready for Sunday’s home game against Leeds United.

The latest update narrows his possible return to the Premier League fixture on 25 October, with Sunderland continuing to manage his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Why Brobbey will miss Lech Poznan

Sunderland have confirmed Brobbey will sit out Thursday’s European tie, despite his return to training.

Speaking on Wednesday, Le Bris said the forward had worked with the squad for roughly 10 days. The head coach explained that Sunderland were taking care over his recovery because of the nature of the injury.

“He won’t play tomorrow, that’s obvious but he should be ready for Leeds,” Le Bris said, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

Brobbey was an unused substitute against Torreense before being left out of the squad for the 2–0 defeat at Bournemouth. His involvement in training has therefore not yet translated into a competitive return.

Could Brobbey start against Leeds?

Le Bris’s update points towards Brobbey being available for Leeds’ visit to the Stadium of Light. It does not confirm a starting place or how many minutes he would be ready to play.

The distinction matters for Sunderland’s attacking options. Wilson Isidor also remained a doubt ahead of Lech Poznan, having done individual work on Wednesday rather than taking part in the full session. Le Bris did not give a firm return date for him.

Brobbey’s expected availability offers encouragement in attack, but Sunderland will still need to make a change in defence against Leeds. Kevin Danso is suspended for that match following his dismissal at Bournemouth, although his domestic ban does not prevent him playing in Europe.
