Bournemouth maintained their perfect Europa League start with a 3–0 victory over AC Milan, scoring twice from the penalty spot before Amine Adli’s late free-kick completed the win.
Bournemouth maintained their perfect Europa League start with a 3–0 victory over AC Milan, scoring twice from the penalty spot before Amine Adli’s late free-kick completed the win.
Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier converted first-half penalties either side of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s dismissal for shoving Tyler Adams in the face. Adli added the third in the 84th minute as Marco Rose’s side moved to nine points from three matches.
Having already beaten Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz in their opening two fixtures, Bournemouth have now scored eight goals and conceded just once in the league phase.
Two penalties and Maignan’s dismissal put Bournemouth in control
Kluivert gave Bournemouth an early lead after a VAR review identified a handball by Milan defender Koni De Winter.
The visitors’ position deteriorated further when Maignan was sent off following his confrontation with Adams. As detailed in Sky Sports’ match report, the Milan captain shoved the Bournemouth midfielder in the face.
Ruben Amorim brought on replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, with Omari Hutchinson making way. Tavernier then converted Bournemouth’s second penalty in the 32nd minute, leaving Milan two goals down and a player short before half-time.
Those incidents changed the task for both sides. Bournemouth could manage a two-goal advantage against ten men, while Milan had lost their goalkeeper and withdrawn an attacking player to replace him.
Adli adds the finish as Bournemouth reach nine points
Adli’s free-kick in the 84th minute removed any remaining doubt, beating Torriani to complete a scoreline confirmed by Milan’s official match report.
It gave Bournemouth a second successive 3–0 home win in the competition, a week after their first European home fixture against Sturm Graz.
The club’s progress has already provided a new chapter in the story explored in Adam Smith’s journey from League One to European football. Beating Milan adds a notable result to that journey, but the immediate reward is straightforward: maximum points from three games.
Qualification is not yet secured. Bournemouth have, however, given themselves a strong platform for the remaining five league-phase fixtures.
