What the managers said

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Arteta gave an update on Saka, who is out for a number of weeks.

“No, we’re talking about obviously weeks. Let’s see, after the international break, he’s going to start hitting the pitch and start to have more activities, how he feels, but unfortunately he’s going to be out for a while.”

“I don’t want to put these guys under too much pressure, they are doing their best to get in shape. Bukayo is desperate to get back with the team, but he’s still quite far away.”

He also spoke about Ezri Konsa, who was taken off against Slavia Praha.

“Yeah he’s fine, he was feeling much better today, we took him out for precaution and for the amount of minutes that he was playing but yesterday and today he’s feeling good.”

On the approach to the game and the run Arsenal are on:

“Yeah, we want to attack the game tomorrow right from the off, and we know the momentum that we have right now; we need to increase that momentum, especially going into the international break, because we know what’s coming after November and December.”

Arteta also spoke about Hull and their manager.

“It’s been an incredible journey. I think what Sergej and the club have done from last year again: promoted it and then performed in some of the difficult games that they’ve been through and the way they have competed and their right to get results. It’s really impressive, we’ve been discussing that with the boys, the kind of thing that we expect tomorrow and to make sure we at least are clear about what we have to do to beat them.”

“It’s now about tomorrow, tomorrow is the main focus, everything that we’ve done I think comes back to tomorrow and maximising what we’ve done in the past with tomorrow’s game and go there, be better than Hull and beat them.”

Sergej Jakirović (Hull)

The Hull manager spoke about Arsenal’s form in the Champions League and the Premier League, and about his preparation.

“They are playing very good football in the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League. They are strong, control their games, and never allow the opponent to play their game. But in football, you always stand a chance. We have prepared, and obviously, we will try to create some difficulties for them.”

“I have watched a lot of Arsenal’s games to find something, but they are brilliant and a very strong team. No matter who is on the pitch, they create a very difficult game for us. We will have to see. We have tried something this week—Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C.”

Brooke Norton-Cuffy (Hull)

The Hull player also spoke ahead of the game.

“They won the league last season, so they’re probably the best team in the league at the moment, so it will be a difficult game”

“They will have a lot of the ball, and they will cause us problems, but I think we set up to go into every game to try and win it. They’re humans at the end of the day; it’s a game of football.”

“I don’t want to give too much away, but there are 11 men on the pitch. I know our team’s always going to be on the front foot and aggressive and try to win football games. That’s our DNA, and that’s what we’ve shown throughout the season. We are going to Arsenal, and that is not really going to change”

Team news

Arsenal are without Bukayo Saka, who is listed with a thigh injury. Arteta said he will start hitting the pitch and doing more activity after the international break and will be out for a while.
