Hibernian have signed former Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo until the end of the season following a successful trial.
Hibernian have signed former Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo until the end of the season following a successful trial.
The Edinburgh club hold an option to extend the 26-year-old’s contract by another year. The move remains subject to Scottish FA and international clearance checks.
The Wales international was available after leaving Norwegian club SK Brann, where he made three appearances following his departure from Rangers in March.
Rabbi Matondo earns Hibernian deal
Matondo trained with Hibs during their camp in La Manga, giving head coach Marink Reedijk an opportunity to assess him before agreeing a contract.
“Rabbi gives us pace, directness and a real threat in wide areas, while also bringing a positive personality into the dressing room,” Reedijk said in comments carried by STV’s report.
The winger also impressed in practice matches. Sky Sports reported earlier on Wednesday that he scored twice and supplied two assists across two games during his trial.
Return to Scottish football
Matondo made 70 appearances for Rangers after joining from Schalke in 2022, with a loan spell at Hannover during his time at Ibrox.
His subsequent move to Brann ended when his contract was terminated towards the close of the summer transfer window.
The Hibs deal gives him another opportunity in the Scottish Premiership after that brief spell in Norway, while providing Reedijk with an additional option in attack.
