Liverpool have confirmed that Sunday’s Premier League match against Brighton will go ahead at Anfield, with kick-off remaining at 2pm GMT despite the strong winds brought by Storm Boelo.
The club also confirmed that Liverpool Women’s WSL fixture against London City Lionesses will proceed at St Helens Stadium, kicking off at the same time.
“Liverpool FC’s fixtures at Anfield and St Helens Stadium today will both go ahead as planned,” read the club’s statement on Sunday morning.
The announcement follows concerns about the weather’s impact on sporting events across Merseyside. Aintree’s Sunday race meeting was cancelled because of the wind, as reported by talkSPORT.
Liverpool urge supporters to allow extra travel time
Liverpool have asked supporters attending either match to plan their journeys in advance, leave extra time and take care while travelling.
Stewards will be available at both stadiums, with fans asked to follow their guidance on arrival.
The Met Office’s forecast for Anfield carries a yellow weather warning for Sunday, with strong winds continuing into the afternoon. Supporters should check the latest conditions and their transport operator’s service updates before setting off.
The confirmation that the matches will proceed does not remove the possibility of disruption to individual journeys.
