Man City rivals seek sanctions across multiple seasons if appeal fails
Man City’s Premier League rivals want sanctions covering multiple seasons if the club’s appeal against financial rule breaches fails, according to BBC Sport.
Man City’s Premier League rivals want sanctions covering multiple seasons if the club’s appeal against financial rule breaches fails, according to BBC Sport.
The broadcaster reports that some club executives believe a points deduction confined to one campaign would be insufficient, even if it resulted in relegation.
City maintain their innocence and have formally challenged the independent commission’s findings. The reported views of rival clubs are not an agreed punishment.
What sanctions do Man City’s rivals want?
According to BBC Sport, proposals discussed by Premier League figures include points deductions spread across several seasons and transfer restrictions covering multiple windows.
The report also describes support for retrospective measures, although clubs differ over whether City should lose titles.
One senior club source favoured removing honours without awarding them to other teams. That does not represent a unanimous position across the league.
City appeal against commission findings
The Premier League announced on 29 September that an independent commission had upheld all charges relating to serious financial breaches over the nine seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
The league said sanctions would be considered separately at a further hearing.
In a statement confirming their appeal, City said the decision contained “clear material errors, of law, principle and fact” and reiterated their denial of the accusations.
The club lodged that appeal on 1 October.
For supporters, the distinction remains important: the commission has issued findings, City are contesting them, and the eventual punishment has yet to be determined. Rival clubs’ preferences do not settle that process.
