Leroy Carter will miss New Zealand’s November Tests against Scotland, Wales and England after undergoing ankle surgery.
Leroy Carter will miss New Zealand’s November Tests against Scotland, Wales and England after undergoing ankle surgery.
The All Blacks confirmed on Monday that the winger is unavailable for the Nations Championship Northern Series, leaving head coach Dave Rennie without another attacking option for the trip to Britain.
Leroy Carter injury: what has New Zealand confirmed?
Carter needed an operation on the high ankle injury he sustained in the first Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia.
The official injury update confirms his absence from the November series but does not give a return date.
He was injured while scoring in the 50-19 victory at Eden Park on 10 October and had already been ruled out of the Australia rematch. Surgery now extends his absence beyond that two-Test series.
Which All Blacks matches will Carter miss?
New Zealand’s three Northern Series fixtures are:
| Date | Opponent | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 7 November | Scotland | Scottish Gas Murrayfield, Edinburgh |
| 14 November | Wales | Principality Stadium, Cardiff |
| 21 November | England | Allianz Stadium, Twickenham |
The programme concludes with the Nations Championship finals weekend at Twickenham from 27–29 November.
Who could replace Leroy Carter?
Josh Moorby has already taken the first opportunity, replacing Carter on the left wing for Saturday’s second Test against Australia.
He scored twice in New Zealand’s 43-21 victory in Sydney, opening the scoring before adding another try early in the second half.
That performance strengthens Moorby’s case to retain the shirt in November. Rennie has an alternative who delivered against Australia, although the selection for the Scotland opener remains to be confirmed.
