Everton transfer plans: Ornstein offers January striker hope

Everton transfer plans for January could still include a new striker despite uncertainty over the club’s ownership, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic reporter says The Friedkin Group remains prepared to invest while exploring new ownership options, with a centre-forward among the additions he could envisage.

The update follows the owners’ announcement that they are considering a potential sale of their controlling stake.

What Ornstein said about Everton transfer plans

Speaking on Tuesday’s The Athletic FC Podcast, in comments reported by Goodison News, Ornstein outlined the owners’ position.

“They’ll be ready to invest in the January transfer market, they say, if that be a striker which I could see coming in.”

His comments indicate that recruitment could continue under the current owners. They do not confirm an agreed signing, a named target or a transfer budget.

Why another striker matters for Moyes

Everton were left with Thierno Barry as their only recognised senior centre-forward after Beto joined Fiorentina and the proposed summer move for Folarin Balogun collapsed.

Additional competition would give David Moyes more options through the second half of the season and reduce the squad’s reliance on Barry’s availability.

In their ownership statement, reproduced by Sky Sports, the Friedkins pledged continued support throughout the investment process. The announcement did not identify a buyer or confirm an agreed takeover.
