Mamadou Sangaré backs Brentford for Champions League push before Liverpool test

Mamadou Sangaré believes Brentford can challenge for a top-four finish this season as Keith Andrews’ unbeaten side prepare to host Liverpool on Saturday.

Speaking to Sam Blitz in an interview published by Sky Sports on Thursday morning, Sangaré identified European qualification as the ambition and suggested a Champions League place could be within reach.

Brentford enter the weekend fourth in the Premier League table, with 10 points from six matches. Liverpool are ninth, one point behind them.

Mamadou Sangaré sets out Brentford’s European ambition

Brentford’s opening results offer encouragement. They have beaten Tottenham and Chelsea 3–0 at home, while drawing against Leeds, Sunderland, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Those results, recorded on Brentford’s official website, leave them with 12 goals scored and six conceded. Their latest outing brought a 2–2 draw at Villa Park.

The next challenge is turning more of those draws into victories. As our analysis of Brentford’s unbeaten start explored, the opening weeks have demonstrated their resilience while leaving room for greater control in tighter matches.

Only six games have been played, but Sangaré’s ambition gives supporters a clear indication of the standards Brentford are setting themselves.

Liverpool visit offers next test

Brentford host Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday 17 October, with kick-off at 3pm BST.

Victory would move Andrews’ side four points clear of their visitors and extend their unbeaten league run to seven matches.

The fixture is not being televised live in the UK. Our Brentford vs Liverpool viewing guide explains the highlights coverage and overseas broadcast options.
