Immanuel Feyi-Waboso injury: England hope after scan

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is set to miss Exeter’s Champions Cup trip to Toulouse, but an encouraging hamstring scan has eased fears of a lengthy absence.

The England wing came off during Sunday’s 34–28 victory over Newcastle Red Bulls, prompting concerns before Exeter’s European opener and next month’s internationals.

Director of rugby Rob Baxter said assessments had offered reassurance.

“There’s nothing I’m hearing from our physios saying there should be a long-term issue,” Baxter said, in comments reported by RugbyPass.

An England physio visited Exeter to assess the winger and review his scan, with his response to physical testing also encouraging.

Baxter hopes Feyi-Waboso could return against Bristol on 24 October. That remains a possibility rather than a confirmed comeback date, with his symptoms and movement guiding the next steps.

England face Australia on 8 November, leaving time for the 23-year-old to recover before Steve Borthwick’s side resume their Nations Championship campaign.

His immediate absence nevertheless adds to Exeter’s shortage of wings. Campbell Ridl, Olly Woodburn and Paul Brown-Bampoe are also unavailable.

Tommy Wyatt and Ben Hammersley are among Baxter’s remaining options, while Sam Harris started at full-back against Newcastle. Baxter told BBC Sport that Exeter were stretched but still had players with Premiership experience available.

Exeter begin their European campaign in France on Sunday 18 October, as confirmed by the club. Follow our Champions Cup coverage for further team news.
