Paul Rowley appointed Castleford head coach on three-year deal

Castleford Tigers have appointed Paul Rowley as their new head coach on a three-year contract following Ryan Carr’s departure.

The former St Helens and Salford coach takes charge after a season in which Castleford finished second-bottom of Super League, winning eight of their 27 matches.

Carr left for personal reasons in August. Rowley, who departed St Helens in July, becomes Castleford’s seventh head coach since Daryl Powell’s departure in 2021.

“I’m looking forward to leading Cas Tigers as their new head coach,” Rowley said in comments reported by Sky Sports.

Director of rugby Chris Chester indicated that further recruitment remains possible as he and Rowley work on strengthening the squad and developing younger players.

The appointment follows progress away from the pitch. Castleford regained Grade A status in the latest club gradings, scoring 15.03 to climb to eighth and secure their Super League place for 2027.

Owner Martin Jepson said improvements on the field were now required alongside the club’s investment in its facilities and squad.

Castleford have already announced the arrivals of outside-back Mat Feagai from St George Illawarra Dragons and prop Robbie Mulhern from Leigh Leopards for next season, both on three-year contracts.

Those additions give Rowley experienced reinforcements as he prepares for his first campaign in charge.
