London Broncos face Super League wait after gradings

London Broncos remain uncertain of their place in next season’s Super League after finishing 16th in the latest club gradings, below Championship rivals Barrow Raiders.

The Broncos scored 9.77 points, with Barrow recording 9.85 in 15th. All 14 existing Super League clubs retained positions in the top 14.

However, London could still enter an expanded competition through a proposed investment agreement involving Australia’s NRL.

London Broncos await expansion decision

PA reports via The Independent that a potential move to 15 clubs would offer London a route into Super League outside the grading process.

That expansion would require approval and has not been confirmed.

The uncertainty follows a dominant season on the field. London completed a domestic treble by winning the League Leaders’ Shield, the 1895 Cup and the Championship Grand Final.

Their success has not translated into a top-14 grading, with the assessment also considering factors beyond results, including finances, facilities and support.

Wakefield top the rankings

Super League champions Wakefield Trinity lead the latest gradings with 17.85 points out of 20.

Leeds are second and Warrington third, with Warrington confirming that all 14 incumbent clubs have secured places for 2027.

For London, the distinction is crucial: winning the Championship has not secured promotion through the current system.

Their hopes now depend on whether the proposed expansion receives approval.
