Fury vs Joshua will have WBA ‘Super’ title at stake, says Warren
Frank Warren says Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight for the WBA ‘Super’ heavyweight title when they meet in Cardiff on 11 December.
Frank Warren says Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight for the WBA ‘Super’ heavyweight title when they meet in Cardiff on 11 December.
The promoter’s statement follows questions from Murat Gassiev’s team about where the proposed championship contest leaves their fighter.
Warren told Sky Sports News that the belt would be contested by the British heavyweights.
Fury vs Joshua title statement follows Gassiev objection
Gassiev’s representatives previously challenged reports that Fury and Joshua would contest the WBA’s ‘Super’ championship.
In a statement published by the International Boxing Association on 25 September, his team described him as the WBA’s ‘regular’ champion.
They argued that Oleksandr Usyk vacating should have resulted in Gassiev being promoted or receiving the first opportunity to fight for the higher status.
Co-promoter John Wirt said they had asked the WBA to explain its position.
Our earlier report covers Gassiev’s request for clarity over his WBA title status.
Warren sets out championship position
Warren’s comments provide a direct statement from Fury’s promoter about the belt intended to be at stake in Cardiff.
They do not, by themselves, explain how Gassiev’s objection has been addressed or what opportunity he will receive.
That distinction matters: the proposed Fury–Joshua contest concerns the WBA’s ‘Super’ title, while Gassiev’s team identified him as its ‘regular’ champion.
The December meeting has already generated substantial demand, with general-sale tickets reported to have sold out within an hour.
