Bristol City welcome back Rob Dickie as they try to halt Norwich City’s winning run at Ashton Gate on Saturday. The Canaries are chasing a fourth successive Championship victory, while Michael Skubala’s hosts need a response to their late defeat against Wolves.

Kick-off is at 12.30pm UK time on Saturday 7 November. Norwich arrive in 12th place, ahead of 15th-placed Bristol City on goal difference, but the teams approach the game with contrasting recent results.

Bristol City vs Norwich preview: recent form

Norwich have scored 10 goals across three consecutive victories, beating Charlton 3-1 and Watford 3-2 before a 4-0 win at Derby. Paris Maghoma has scored in all three matches, according to BBC Sport’s statistical preview.

Our report on Derby’s defeat by Norwich covers a performance in which Philippe Clement’s side scored three times before half-time.

Bristol City’s home results offer encouragement to the visitors. The Robins have lost five of their seven league games at Ashton Gate, including Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat by Wolves.

That result was particularly frustrating because City led until the closing stages before Sean Neave scored twice. It followed a 3-2 victory over Bolton, secured by Scott Twine’s stoppage-time winner, leaving Skubala looking for greater consistency.

Bristol City team news: Rob Dickie and Elijah Adebayo return

Dickie is available again after recovering from the knee injury that had kept him out since September. His return is earlier than initially expected and gives Skubala another defensive option against Norwich’s in-form attack.

“Rob is up for selection so that’s great news,” Skubala told BBC Radio Bristol, as reported in Friday’s Bristol City injury update.

Adebayo is also available after missing three matches with a quad problem, although he is unlikely to be ready for a full 90 minutes. Lorent Tolaj is expected to be involved despite not being fully fit, while Joe Williams is available.

Skubala also explained that Luke McNally’s involvement is a matter of managing his workload after a long-term knee injury, rather than a fresh injury setback.

Norwich City team news: McLean and Mattsson available

Norwich have received a double fitness boost, with Kenny McLean and Pelle Mattsson returning to training and travelling with the squad.

Clement said both were available for at least some minutes, although decisions on the starting team and substitutes would wait until Saturday. Their availability does not necessarily mean either will start.

The manager’s comments, carried in Hayters’ Norwich team news update, give him additional midfield options as he considers whether to change a winning side.

What could decide Bristol City vs Norwich?

Analysis: Norwich’s recent scoring run makes defensive control the immediate priority for Bristol City. Dickie’s return offers help, but the hosts must also avoid another late lapse after losing their lead against Wolves.

Adebayo’s availability gives Skubala more choice in attack, although his minutes may need managing. Norwich have the stronger recent momentum; Bristol City’s returning players give them a chance to make this a more difficult afternoon than the visitors experienced at Derby.
