Colin Lloyd has defended Luke Littler’s decision to compete in the World Youth Championship, saying the world number one is “not doing anything wrong”.
Lloyd’s comments, reported by Oche180, address criticism of Littler’s appearance in an event he first won in 2023.
The 19-year-old remained eligible despite his success in senior darts. He entered this year’s competition as an age-qualified Tour Card holder.
His bid ended on Monday when Cam Crabtree beat him 6-5 in the semi-finals at Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan.
Luke Littler denied another youth final
Littler recovered from 2-0 down to lead Crabtree, producing a 164 checkout during a run of three consecutive legs.
Crabtree regained the advantage before Littler’s 117 finish forced a deciding leg. The eventual winner then held throw in 16 darts, finishing on double six.
According to Sky Sports’ report, it was Littler’s first competitive appearance since his opening-round World Grand Prix defeat by Luke Woodhouse.
Crabtree will face Germany’s Jan Schmidt in the final at Butlin’s Minehead Resort on Sunday 29 November, during the Players Championship Finals weekend.
The result gives the former Development Tour champion an opportunity to add the youth title to his growing record. Read our Cam Crabtree profile for more on his progress through the PDC ranks.
