Erling Haaland has urged Manchester City supporters to stay united as the club challenge their guilty verdict over breaches of Premier League financial rules.
City travel to Liverpool on Sunday for their first match since an independent commission delivered its findings. The club have appealed and maintain their innocence.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Haaland called for supporters and players to focus on moving forward together.
Erling Haaland calls for unity
“We have to stick together. We have to stay with each other, and we have to stay positive,” he said in the Sky Sports interview.
The Norway striker also spoke about his connection with Manchester and City’s supporters, explaining that he considers himself a fan and shares their feelings.
His message centred on supporting one another and trying to win matches as the club contest the commission’s decision.
Liverpool trip follows verdict
City have challenged the findings on the grounds that the judgment contains errors of law, principle and fact.
Haaland’s comments do not resolve the uncertainty surrounding that process, but they offer his public response before the team return to Premier League action.
The striker also reflected on the significance of facing Liverpool, recalling watching the rivalry develop when Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp managed the two clubs.
Liverpool have their own selection concerns before Sunday’s meeting. Our latest Liverpool injury update covers Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.
