Aston Villa vs Fulham team news centres on the expected availability of Nicolas Jackson and Johan Manzambi, while visiting manager Álvaro Arbeloa has confirmed Antonee Robinson will start at Villa Park.

Unai Emery expects Jackson and Manzambi to be available following their absence from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Bournemouth, subject to training. Fulham have reported no new injuries since their own midweek cup exit against Crystal Palace.

Kick-off is at 8pm GMT on Saturday 31 October. Our Aston Villa vs Fulham viewing guide has the television and streaming details.

Aston Villa team news: Jackson and Manzambi expected to be available

Jackson and Manzambi missed Villa’s 3–0 defeat at Bournemouth, but Emery indicated on Friday that both could return against Fulham.

Asked whether their omission had been a matter of rest, the Villa manager said there were different reasons behind the decision. He expected the pair to be available following training, without confirming a starting place for either player.

The distinction is between being available for selection and being named in the team. Emery’s update was encouraging, but the starting XI will establish whether both return immediately.

In his pre-match comments about Jackson, Emery also stressed the importance of time and consistency as the striker continues to settle at Villa. He expressed satisfaction with Jackson’s progress while making clear that further improvement is expected.

Jackson scored both goals in the 2–1 victory over Manchester City last weekend. He has four goals in his past four Premier League appearances, making his expected availability a significant boost for Villa’s attack.

Aston Villa injury news: three players remain unavailable

Villa’s official matchday preview confirms that Matteo Ruggeri and Aaron Wan-Bissaka remain sidelined, while Amadou Onana is a long-term absentee.

Emery said on 20 October that Wan-Bissaka was expected to miss three to four weeks with a hamstring injury. The defender remains unavailable for Fulham, although that recovery estimate does not guarantee a particular return date.

Those absences leave Emery with decisions to make as he selects his defence following the changes made for the cup tie.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis featured at Bournemouth and received praise from his manager on Friday. Emery highlighted the defender’s professionalism and understanding of what is required to progress at Villa. That assessment did not amount to confirmation that he would retain his place against Fulham.

Fulham team news: Robinson to start, Smith Rowe competing for selection

Arbeloa reported no fresh injury problems following Fulham’s 1–0 home defeat by Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

The clearest selection announcement concerned Robinson. The Fulham manager backed the left-back after the cup defeat and confirmed he would start at Villa Park.

“He will start tomorrow. He is so important for us and a very good player,” Arbeloa said in comments covered by BBC Sport’s press-conference summary.

Emile Smith Rowe is competing for a recall after his recent fitness problem. Arbeloa explained that the midfielder had been injured around the Hull City match, but framed his subsequent absence in terms of competition for places.

With 23 players in the squad, the manager said not everyone could be involved in every game. He praised Smith Rowe’s work and said the midfielder needed to remain patient while waiting for an opportunity.

David Affengruber’s involvement remains less clear after he missed the Palace tie. Ryan Sessegnon is unavailable as he serves the final match of his three-game suspension.

The managers’ updates leave Villa awaiting the outcome of training for Jackson and Manzambi, while Fulham have a confirmed starter at left-back but uncertainty over Affengruber’s involvement.

Both sides seek a third successive league win

Villa and Fulham return to Premier League action after midweek cup defeats, but both have won their past two league matches.

Emery’s side beat Newcastle United and Manchester City. Fulham recorded consecutive 1–0 victories over Hull City and Coventry City after failing to win any of their opening six league games.

Saturday therefore offers both teams the opportunity to extend an improving league run. Jackson’s expected return would strengthen Villa’s options, while Fulham will look to build on the defensive performances behind their two recent clean sheets.
