Aston Villa vs Fulham brings together two sides chasing a third successive Premier League win at Villa Park on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson’s scoring form up against a visiting defence seeking its third straight clean sheet.

Kick-off is at 8pm GMT on 31 October. Villa took 11 points from their opening eight league matches, three more than Fulham, and both have the chance to build on an October recovery after difficult starts.

Their midweek results were less encouraging. Villa lost 3–0 at Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, while Fulham went out after a 1–0 home defeat by Crystal Palace. The return to league action offers both an immediate chance to respond.

Our Aston Villa vs Fulham viewing guide has the TV channels and streaming details.

Aston Villa form: Jackson makes the difference

Villa followed their 1–0 victory at Newcastle United with a 2–1 home win over Manchester City, with Jackson scoring both goals against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The striker struck after six minutes and supplied the winner after Erling Haaland had equalised. Ibrahim Mbaye helped create the decisive goal, giving Villa a response when City threatened to take control.

It was also Villa’s first home Premier League win of the season. That makes the performance a useful benchmark for Saturday, rather than evidence that they have already made Villa Park a reliable source of points.

Speaking to Villa’s official website after the City victory, Jackson described the team’s intention to start aggressively, keep possession and press their opponents.

Repeating that approach against Fulham presents a different challenge. Villa will need to create openings against a defence that has come through its last two league matches without conceding.

Fulham form: clean sheets underpin recovery

Fulham’s first six Premier League matches brought just two points. Their next two brought six, with consecutive 1–0 victories over Hull City and Coventry City changing the mood around Álvaro Arbeloa’s side.

Alex Iwobi scored the winner against Hull at Craven Cottage on 17 October. His 33rd-minute goal was enough to secure Fulham’s first league victory of the campaign.

A week later, Oscar Bobb settled the trip to Coventry with an 80th-minute strike. His late intervention secured Fulham’s second successive league win and showed the value of keeping a match level while waiting for an opening.

Neither result leaves much room for error, but both demonstrate why Villa cannot assume that territorial pressure will produce an easy evening. Fulham have recently needed only one decisive moment to take all three points.

Aston Villa vs Fulham preview: the key battle

Jackson’s movement and finishing give Villa their clearest route to goal. Against City, his combination with Mbaye also showed the importance of the service around him: the striker finished the chance, but a teammate’s pace and delivery helped create it.

Fulham’s task is therefore broader than marking Jackson. They must limit the passes into him and prevent Villa’s supporting players from finding space around the penalty area.

At the other end, Villa cannot commit so many players forward that they leave Fulham an easy route out. Iwobi and Bobb have supplied the winners in the visitors’ recent league matches, giving Arbeloa more than one potential source of a breakthrough.

The opening goal could shape the contest. Fulham have protected narrow leads in successive games; Villa would prefer to make the visitors chase an equaliser.

What the managers said

Emery praised Fulham’s recent performances in his pre-match press conference, including their display despite losing to Palace in the cup.

He also stressed that Villa’s focus must remain on this fixture, describing the Premier League as the priority and acknowledging that his side need more points.

Arbeloa was similarly complimentary about Villa. In his Friday media briefing, he highlighted their organisation, defensive structure and clear understanding of what to do in possession.

Dave.Sport prediction: Aston Villa 2–1 Fulham

Villa’s performance against City and Jackson’s finishing give the hosts a narrow edge. Fulham’s improving defence should make this competitive, but Villa have shown they can create and convert chances against strong opposition.

The historical record also favours the home side. According to Villa’s official match preview, Fulham have won only once in 18 Premier League visits to Villa Park, while Emery has won eight of his nine league meetings with the Cottagers.

Those records provide context rather than a guarantee. Fulham arrive with renewed confidence, and Villa are still trying to turn their first home league win into a sustained run.

Our prediction is a close game decided by Villa’s greater attacking threat: Aston Villa 2–1 Fulham.
